The low mid? yeah they run at half power (@ -3dB not -6dB (which is half the voltage), pretty much idling, and keep up with the rest 🙂 All Fane loaded.

TBH I don’t know much about consumer SSDs as I’ve never yet bought one. I guess it’s a case of SLC vs MLC, the number of IOPS you want and the max real-world throughput (synchronous and random read/writes). One thing I do know is TRIM support is essential on whatever OS you use it with.

If its extreme performance you’re after than a PCI-e card rather than a drive is what you want (a drive being something using SATA). One of the reasons I got a macbook was it’s thunderbolt port which is actually a PCI-e bus allowing you to literally use PCI-e cards (via an external bay thing) via that port on a laptop (2x10gbps) – nice idea from Intel that one. Who’d have thought you could plug full size PCI cards into a laptop 😉 Unlike USB, Thunderbolt – because it’s on the PCI bus – has direct access to memory, which could be easily exploited. Slightly OT there me thinks 🙂

My suggestion would be anything made by QNAP – you get them loaded or unloaded. They stream every protocol under the sun too, which is nice.

Loading in an 1850 leaves you limited choices of drivers AFAIK. Be better with reflex cabs – cheaper to build and can use any driver.

If it really is going to be a kamikaze rig I wouldn’t be caring too much about drivers. I’m now curious what you have in terms of the rest of rig that you’re willing to give up to the ol’ bill.

Why not just find a better venue so it doesn’t get seized in the first place?

Do me a favour and use good quality drivers so I can buy it back at a police auction.

Unless its 700 rupees then absolutely not worth it.

I bought the Dell ML110 LED projector when it first came out, and even then it was only £150. I soon learnt small and delicate is not what you want for a outdoor party. That LG thing won’t be bright enough (it may be brighter than the originals, but no match for a real bulb) and it’ll be fragile, which may sound ironic comparing it to a bulb, but it’s likely true (think connector strength etc). Mine is now missing a range of colours too, so pretty much fucked. Lets assume you’re talking Pounds. For 700 you can get 2 decent full size HD projectors (mount them in modified foam lined flight cases!) or as Chrispydelic says, a laser. Lasers are infinitely brighter and much better party material for ‘looking cool’. As long as its a high scan rate ILDA compatible job it’s what you want.

Can’t recommend anything in particular as there’s so many to choose from. Don’t knock all the Chinese imports from EBay though, after all everything is made in China and they’re putting out some well made alternatives to the branded ones. That being said, Equinox seem to be the make of choice in the budget range, as they’re reasonably priced and come in many pretty colours (again, as long as it says ILDA compatible it should look sweet).

Hmm can you tell I’ve not actually looked at it yet.. seems the motor is soldered directly onto the main board. Nice.

Going to check for sure that it’s not just the power supply before committing to anything.

Dear oh dear GL – don’t think I’ve ever heard you swear so much before 😉

It’s never been acceptable to use the transmitter to alter the audio, it’s job is to take an input, convert the medium, and output in a true a form as the original input as possible.

The question is, what work does it really need? Porting maybe, but IIRC is was pretty bug free when they stopped.

There’s a good TED talk about how more choice is not always a good thing. The typical example is when you have more to choose from the less satisfied you are with your choice. Applies to everything from food to clothes to cars to laptops etc.

When there’s so many things to choose from you can’t help but think ‘I wonder if this other one was better…’ whereas if there’s only two things, and you know the difference, it’s a lot easier to make a choice and be satisfied with that choice.

That company called Apple know all about this, that’s why they have a limited product range, so their customer’s aren’t confused and generally satisfied with their choice at the time.

And yes… who doesn’t love a bit of pirate radio; playing music the people want.

The trim pot sets the gain from the input, before any gain introduced by the EQ. I thought the fader was post EQ. Got myself an NUO 3.0 for playing about with, I should go experiment me thinks 🙂

Edit: Think I get it now, ignore that comment.

I have no idea how to mix, but surely the faders are to level the input after the EQ stage and the faders are to do the crossing between tracks. Meh.

The saving part is so you can pay for things without making you skint that month really. So when my timing belt needs changed I don’t have to eat beans on toast.

Disclaimer – I don’t actually save, but I’m starting to realise I kinda need to. Especially because my timing belt does actually needs changed!

What I’m most worried about is having to pay for rent when I’m 70 because I’ve no job and not been able to buy a house.. wtf do you do then? I don’t buy much at all, certainly not little shity things I don’t need. I usually buy expensive things which are well made and aesthetically pleasing, maybe twice a year I treat myself to something but I’ll use the shit out of it. Nothing worse than buying things that never get used or only used a couple of times. I don’t have a modern phone or buy many clothes etc but I’d happily spend a grand on a Macbook and a nice car. Everyone at work is out buying the latest tablet and I just don’t see the point. We live in a consumer driven world (Bill Hicks sketch ‘little happy consumers’ comes to mind). Capitalism is based on growth so they need people to buy buy buy to keep the wheel spinning. We can’t keep growth up like that as everything you buy requires earth’s materials which are finite. it’s not rocket science it’s common sense that exponential growth fuelled by needless consumerism isn’t sustainable.

So who wants to start a pirate radio station?

The old school way to do it was get an abandoned flat up a high riser, set up the transmitter and antenna there and use an old sky dish with a UHF transmitter and broadcast the signal from another flat across the road. That way the DJ isn’t in the same building as the transmitter. The problem with that was you can easily see the line of sight where the LNB is pointed.

Much easier to do with WiFi now but still need 2 locations and either a proper built Yagi or a Pringles Can:

How To Make A WiFi Antenna Out of A Pringles Can

Still need a nice stereo FM transmitter, preferably one with one RDS to be one of the cool cats.
